Lakewood Arts (LAC) “Adopt-a-School” for April, 2026: Liam McKenzie, Jefferson Jr./Sr HS, and Colfax Elementary School

Liam McKenzie is our featured student on LAC’s “Spotlight” wall. He is a junior at Palmer Ridge High School. His exhibit, “Dreams” features his original photography which explains how he feels when he is going to sleep or waking up, from a dream and the surreal feeling that comes with that. Stop by and see Liam’s photography through the month of April.

We adopted two additional schools in March, our second year at both events.

Jefferson Jr./Sr. High School

The first was Jefferson Jr./Sr. High’s annual Career Day. Volunteers Dorothy Lessem and Krista Tonuci represented Lakewood Arts. Of the students from local Jefferson County schools attending the event, LAC had a combined total of 165 students from grades 6-12 stopped by our table to talk about art careers. We look forward to welcoming some as future gallery visitors and exhibitors.

Colfax Elementary School “Glow Party”

The other event was Colfax Elementary’s annual “Glow Party.” With the help of volunteers Steve, Barbara and Donna from the Optimist Club, LAC volunteers Sandy Guinn and Dorothy Lessem applied temporary “glow tattoos” to the arms, hands, and some faces for students and their families in grades K-5. We all had a fun time!

We’re looking for a schools to “adopt” for the coming year. Please refer any school you know of that needs assistance. In addition to providing space for teachers to exhibit student artwork, we may also assist with art supplies, special events, or may be able to assist your class with a “guest artist teacher.” If you are a teacher interested in participating in our “Adopt-a-School” program, please contact us at lakewoodarts.education@gmail.com
