Lakewood Arts Council’s Adopt-a-School Program for April and May 2024

Lakewood Arts Gallery Visitors - Eazy Squeegee!

On First Friday, April 5, we held a hands-on art event for anyone wishing to learn how to create a “Squeegee Painting.” These are done by applying paint to a canvas in a variety of dots, lines, squiggles, and colors, then pulling a squeegee through the paint to create an abstract style painting. The variety of paintings created is as diverse and imaginative as the people who participated. Looking at some of the paintings is looking at the clouds and seeing images in them…ghost like figures, cats, dolphins, goldfish, just let your imagination go wild. Over 100 paintings will be on display in our Acorn gallery during the month of May. Please come check them out!!

Thank you to the co-op members and other volunteers who helped make this event happen: Rolina Carter, Gary Browning, Renae Blake, Jo Davis, Rose Ann Knight, Dorothy Lessem, Kathleen Little, and Katie Trapp. Thanks also to our co-sponsor: 40 West Art District.

In addition to providing space for teachers to exhibit student artwork, we may also assist with art supplies, special events, or be able to assist your class with a “guest teacher.” If you are a teacher interested in participating in our “Adopt-a-School” program, please contact us at lakewoodarts.president@gmail.com
