Lakewood Arts (LAC) “Adopt-a-School” for October, 2025: Cheltenham Elementary School, Lord of Life Lutheran 1-8
With the start of the new school year, LAC was contacted by two different schools for a variety of art supplies. Lord of Life is a small K-8 school with no funds for a formal art program or more than basic supplies. I was contacted by their volunteer art teacher, Debbie Brooks, for paint supplies and we purchased a few sets of tempura paint for them to add to their supplies.
Rachel Moen, the Art teacher at Cheltenham Elementary, requested paper for general projects and additional supplies for specific projects:
“Not a Box”- students transform a 4” foldable corrugated box into something new
Identity Flags – students design flags that represent their identities
Personal Altars – “using objects that are meaningful to them, fostering reflection and personal storytelling.”
We’re looking for a schools to “adopt” for the coming year. Please refer any school you know of that needs assistance. In addition to providing space for teachers to exhibit student artwork, we may also assist with art supplies, special events, or may be able to assist your class with a “guest artist teacher.” If you are a teacher interested in participating in our “Adopt-a-School” program, please contact us at lakewoodarts.education@gmail.
Lakewood Arts (LAC) “Adopt-a-School” for November, 2025: Colfax Elementary School
Artwork by Colfax Elementary 4th and 5th graders is currently on display on our “Spotlight” exhibition wall. We reserve this space for students and non-profits to show their work for a month free of charge. Heather Abreu, the Art teacher at Colfax Elementary, has displayed her students’ artwork previously at our gallery. This year’s theme for students is: Self-Exploration! Portraits, Collage, and Ink that shares about who they are and what they enjoy!
There are three different projects students were invited to create:
Self-portraits
Wreck it Collages
Inktober
Each gave students a chance to share about themselves and explore a new medium or materials.” Come and check it out!
