Lakewood Arts (LAC) “Adopt-a-School” for June, 2025: Monarch Montessori School – Ms. Nirmala’s Class

For June’s school, we donated funds needed to purchase supplies for summer session projects initiated by Ms. Nirmala for her pre-K-2nd grade students in Denver, CO.

Ms. Nirmala says:

“Over the summer, a lot of our students come for summer session. Our students are 2.5-5 years old and spend the whole year working hard academically. Each day they have 2 two hour work cycles where they engage in academic work. Over the summer, we spend one day doing an art project. This gives students an opportunity to engage in practice life work. Since our students are in preschool they do not have a block of art, gym, or music so we use our summer programming as a time to engage in this work. We plan on doing a craft each week and align it to our themes. One day we will do sip and painting where students will engage in painting canvas while sipping on juice boxes. We also plan on painting rocks to place in our urban garden. We have one of the biggest urban gardens in Denver and want to use the rocks as decorations.”

Lakewood Arts found this project on the DonorsChooose.org website, a 501(c)(3) charity where educators can request funding for specials projects and other supplies. (More than half of students at this school are from low‑income households.)

We’re looking for a schools to “adopt” for the coming year. Please refer any school you know of that needs assistance. In addition to providing space for teachers to exhibit student artwork, we may also assist with art supplies, special events, or may be able to assist your class with a “guest artist teacher.” If you are a teacher interested in participating in our “Adopt-a-School” program, please contact us at lakewoodarts.president@gmail.
